Secure your path to a sustainable and therefore future-proof company

The European Commission has made considerable efforts in recent years to mitigate global warming. The EU Emissions Trading System is the most important instrument here.

The system covers around 40% of EU-wide emissions and covers more than 10,000 companies (from electricity/heat generation, refineries, steel, cement, glass and paper production). Other sectors will be gradually integrated, including buildings, road transport and fuels.

The cost pressure on companies will increase, the free CO2 certificates will be gradually abolished and the tradable certificate quantities will be continuously reduced. To date, certificate prices have been regulated via the emissions trading system (nEHS). From 2027, there will be a transition to free pricing in emissions trading, with price increases of around 75 % expected by 2027.

At the same time, energy-intensive products imported into the EU will be priced through the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in order to prevent the relocation of CO2 emissions.

Further regulatory interventions, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Supply Chain Duty of Care Act (LkSG), require more and more companies to submit a report on their activities to reduce emissions. Penalties based on turnover are now also levied for non-compliance.

It makes sense for companies to carry out an analysis, identify risks and define CO2 reduction measures as early as possible. This is the only way they can meet the requirements of the regulatory framework and strengthen their position on the market.
